"...as an art it involves freedom within great discipline"
(Brodley, 1999: 81)
As a counsellor, I strive to provide a safe, open environment where you are able to explore difficulties and find direction in your life and through this therapeutic counselling process, experience personal growth and development. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and an accepting environment for those wishing to experience change in their personal circumstances.
Counselling offers time and space in which to safely explore and grow, to understand anxieties, feelings and thoughts which may be troubling you.
It is also an opportunity to come to understand changes or life experiences which can cause distress, without criticism or judgement. Person-centred counselling and play therapy can facilitate significant and lasting change; for children, young people, men and women, of all ages, from a range of backgrounds. I trust in a person’s ability to find their own answers and direction in their own time and provide the right environment for them to do so.
Increased self-confidence, higher self-esteem, deeper understanding and an ability to see ourselves more clearly are some benefits of counselling.
Counselling is not however a "fix", particularly in the case of deeply rooted difficulties, these benefits are not guaranteed and can sometimes take time and depend upon a willingness to engage in the counselling process. For some people talking about things that are affecting them can prove challenging and / or even painful. In this instance, attending counselling on a regular basis, even when it feels difficult, often proves valuable so that thoughts and feelings can be worked through.
